Lord St, which runs parallel to the promenade, is a main shopping area. The
gallery is between the library and Southport Arts Centre and close to the Town
Hall. The railway station is just behind the gallery on Chapel St. Some street
parking (2 hours maximum) available nearby in King St.
The gallery specialises in British art of the 17th to 20th centuries, including
works by Lely, Lowry, Cotman, Ford Maddox Brown, Sickert and Ginner. Of special
interest is "The Death of General Wolfe" by Benjamin West. Large
collection of British watercolours, etchings and engravings. Some contemporary
works.
To join The Friends of Southport Art Gallery send £7 to the Hon Secretary c/o
the gallery.
Disabled access is via Cambridge Walks next to Cranberries Cafe. Disabled
parking spaces are available in the Town Hall service road. Call the gallery to
make arrangements. The gallery shop sells postcards and gifts, Dukes Bar &
Cafe open mid-day until 11pm Monday to Saturday.
