The Lowry Gallery houses the world's largest collection of paintings by L.S.
Lowry with additional personal effects and memorabilia. There are over 100
paintings, drawings and sketches. The collection includes many lesser known but
wonderful portraits, landscapes and seascapes , work which has been overshadowed
in the public eye by Lowry's "matchstick men".
The Victorian Gallery contains 19th and early 20th century paintings including
works by G.F. Watts, Daniel Maclise, Edward Burne-Jones, Charles Landseer Paul
Sandby and Ivon Hitchens.
The Langworthy and North Galleries house temporary exhibitions.
All areas of the gallery are accessible to those in wheelchairs. Of particular
note are the statues in the Victorian gallery which have been specially treated
so that they can be touched, and information is presented in braille for the
visually impaired.
Part of the museum, Lark Hill Place, is a mock up of a Victorian street scene.
The museum also houses Salford Local History Library.
