AWARE Photographic Arts is a Community based photographic workshop which offer a friendly atmosphere, with help, advice and support.

Open - Monday to Friday, but it is advisable to ring first.

The Lark Lane Studio facilities include darkroom and processing, photographic Studio, digital workstation with Adobe Photoshop, 35mm negative and flatbed scanning, and up to A3 output. All facilities are available for hire.

AWARE also run a mobile photographic unit which is able to take the experience of photography out into the community. From primary school age through to old age pensioners, able bodied or special needs (including visually impaired), everyone can enjoy this unique experience.

The gallery is based in a popular location near Asda and Aldi on Smithdown Road. The coffee shop is on street level making it wheelchair friendly and there is a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere with comfortable seating and reading material provided. The gallery is run by two practicing local artists Lis Edgar and Sue Lucine. The exhibitions concentrate mainly on showing local artists work, one person exhibitions for a period of one and a half months. All work on display is for sale. Open seven days a week 9 - 5.

The academy is housed in a building which it shares with a number of small businesses and artists. Do not expect the splendour of the "Royal Academy", the academy has more of the atmosphere of a village hall. The gallery is on the corner of Wood St and Concert Square, a short walk from Central Station. Although at ground level a special lift eases wheelchair access to the building.

The gallery puts on exhibitions of photographic work, by local, national and internationally renowned photographers.

You can join the friends for £12 per year (£10 concessions) for discounts on events and workshops, invitations to previews and access to the collection of books and journals. Membership of the mailing list is free.

Young budding photographers might like to join "Young Eyes" and take part in workshops and other events for 11-16 year olds. Contact Helen James at the gallery.

The gallery is on the opposite side of Abercrombie Square from the University of Liverpool Art Gallery. The entrance is beneath the walkway over Oxford Rd. Go up the stairs and past the reception desk to the hallway where work is displayed.

The gallery is on the ground floor of the University of Liverpool administration building where temporary exhibitions are arranged during term time. The viewing area is up a short flight of stairs.

Young Tate Drop-In - for young people aged 14 - 25, take place on the second Sunday of each month between 2pm and 5 pm. No pre-booking required. A team of young people, artists and gallery staff, run lively information sessions which take a closer look at one of the exhibitions. These sessions are free unless an admission charge applies to the exhibition.

All floors are accessible by wheelchair and a number of wheelchairs are available on request.  Large print and Braille versions of the newsletter and Viewpoints are available from the Information Desk as is an audio guide to the building.

Group Visits
Information Assistants give short tailor made talks to introduce groups to specific exhibitions and displays. Book through the Education Secretary on 0151-702-7451.

Guided tours take place each day at 2pm. They are free of charge and last approximately half an hour. No pre-booking is necessary.

Abercromby Square is near to the Metropolitan Cathedral and The Everyman Theatre.

The gallery displays a selection of the finest works of art belonging to the University of Liverpool. Amongst the many highlights of the collection are a representative group of English watercolours, paintings by Joseph Wright of Derby and JMW Turner, rare oil paintings by the wild life artist John James Audubon, a fine selection of English porcelain, stained glass cartoons by Edward Burne-Jones, portraits by Augustus John, sculpture by John Foley, and Lord Leighton and important works by 20th century artists including Jacob Epstein, Lucien Freud, Dame Elizabeth Frink and David Hockney.

The gallery is run by the University of Liverpool.

Coffee and light refreshments are available in the Staff House next door to the art gallery at 4-5 Abercromby Square.

Postcards and publications are on sale at the entrance to the art gallery.

A free service for schools is offered, but must be booked in advance (call the general number above).

The gallery is on several levels that can only be reached by stairs.

Groups are welcome during normal hours, or at other times by appointment. Guided tours are available, but must be booked in advance. A small charge may be levied for groups visiting outside normal hours.

Free lunchtime gallery talks are arranged during term time. Prior booking is not necessary.

The gallery is a new, bright and extensive gallery on three floors, showing contemporary work. Mathew St is the "Beatles" quarter of Liverpool and the gallery is on the first floor up a flight of stairs.

The gallery is opposite Lime St Station, next to Liverpool Museum.

The permanent collection spans the 14th to the 20th centuries and is especially rich in early Italian and Flemish works. There is good coverage of European art including works by Rubens, Rembrandt, Poussin, Cezanne, Gainsborough and Hogarth. The British pre-Raphaelites are well represented. Modern paintings on display include works by David Hockney, Gillian Ayres, Peter Phillips and Lucien Freud. The award winning sculpture gallery has one of the finest displays of 18th and 19th century sculpture outside London.

The Walker Cafe is open until 4.30pm each day and serves hot and cold dishes, cakes and pastries.

The gallery shop sells souvenirs, books, postcards, posters and jewellery.

All areas of the gallery are accessible by wheelchair.
